The Mullet Hunters Taking Wisconsin by Storm
Much like the music, the name is hard to forget and for good reason. Since the band formed a little over three years ago, theyve made an impressive name for themselves. So who are these guys and where did they come from? It started as kind of a joke, notes singer/dancer/guitarist/trumpeter Kit Butz, We got together to play a St. Patricks Day gig with a weeks worth of practice and the thing just took off. That it did. Within a few short months the Mullet Hunters had chosen a name and were booked for some of the biggest weekends of the season at some of Door Countys most visible venues. Since then, the band has performed regularly around Wisconsin, developed an ultra-loyal fan base and, more impressive yet, produced Going Somewhere, an album that received rave reviews and re-established this one-time cover band as an original song-writing force to be reckoned with. Now, just three years later, the band is set to release its second album and shows no sign of slowing down. The band itself is made up of five regular guys with an irregular aplomb for blending a variety of musical styles into an energized several-hour show. * Jeremy Ballistic, the lead singer and penny whistler with a strong affinity for Motley Crue-style hard rock, spent years in school studying recording engineering and audio technology. * Kit Butz, recognized by his oft-bleached hair and stage antics, brings more of the 90s punk influence to the band with his spirited vocals, guitar playing, and trumpeting. * Chris Oakdale a.k.a. "Bruce Malacco" is the newest addition to the Mullet Hunters line-up. Oakdale was a member of the power trio that started the whole idea of the Mullet Hunters band as it is now. Crossing over from guitar to bass, he is an exciting addition to the band. * And last but not least is Freddie the shirtless Swedish drummer. Freddie took about ten years away from music in order to follow Ace of Base, but appears to be having no problem getting back into it. As for the music itself, The Mullet Hunters have won over their following with a wide repertoire of cover songs but not, says Butz, played exactly the way intended. Every cover song has a distinct Mullet Hunters stamp, whether it be an edgy punk-rock tune or a mainstream song reinterpreted with horns and a few other show surprises. Now, with a full bank of original songs to back up the long list of covers, the Mullet Hunters, it seems, have risen to new heights. Need more convincing? Come to a show and see for yourself; youll like what you hear.
